About Kaamos

Kaamos
1. (noun) In polar regions, the time of the year when the sun does not rise above the horizon, esp. a period of 24 hours or more when there is no twilight.

Kaamos Games is a finnish project work group put together in January 2013. With six students in the team, Kaamos worked within the digital game project course run by the University of Jyväskylä. Later on we have continued the development on our own. Our aim is to design and carry out an interesting (story and game mechanics wise), visually and auditorily enjoyable prototype of a digital game.

We created the blog to let people follow the progress of our project. We gladly welcome any kind of feedback or conversation considering us, our working, and especially the game. Feel free to comment the blog posts or contact us personally through the form in the Contact tab.

Kai Ylinen / producer
I'm a 25-year-old art history student from University of Jyväskylä. I've always been interested in the relations of art and science, storytelling, street art and gaming. I appreciate all the things beautiful, intimidating, thrilling, and amazingly ingenious. I've been working on film projects and event management before, but it's my very first time producing a digital game. I've enjoyed it more than I could have imagined.

Katariina Pesonen / game designer
I study literature in the Univeristy of Jyväskylä. In this project, my main focus is on the story and writing the dialogue and script for the game. I also contribute to the level design. On my free time, I play board games, go to zumba and watch series like The Big Bang Theory. I play all kinds of video games except really violent ones (no blood for me!).

Mikko Jakonen / programmer & graphic designer
I'm an information technology student at University of Jyväskylä, so I'm proficient with all kinds of coding based on my studies. In my free time I do different kinds of programming as well, mostly work with websites and fiddling around with games, though this Kaamos project is the most serious game project I've worked with. In addition to coding the game I've contributed the concept art and will be doing most of the work with textures and other visual stuff. My other passion in addition to games is comics, whence most of my graphical skills come from.

Oskari Leppäaho / programmer & graphic designer
I study information technology in the University of Jyväskylä. In Cube Horizon I work with Unity scripting and 3D modeling. I have some experience in game programming from some programming course exercises and in 2013 I have done two small games with Unity: one for the Global Game Jam and one for the Instanssi festival of digital creation. In my free time I focus on RTS and RPG games.

Santeri Hämäläinen / audio designer
I´m musicology student from the University of Jyväskylä. This is the first game project I have been in. My inpiration for music and sound effects comes from environmental sounds, nature and from various movies and games. This game in mind, I have produced quite minimalistic, etheric ambient music.
